Our Amphibians
Montello Hill has been named an Area of National Herpetological Importance (AREN) for its role in protecting reptiles and amphibians. Although it’s not very large, it’s one of Italy’s top spots for these species, thanks to many natural and man-made pools. Montello is home to a remarkable variety of amphibians—twenty distinct species, in fact. Among them are alpine, crested, and smooth newts, as well as common toads, tree frogs, Lataste frogs, Dalmatian frogs, and green frogs, each contributing to the area’s diverse and thriving habitat.
